SINFONIETTA VENTUS
Wind octet

Sinfonietta Ventus has carved out a niche as one of Mexico's most visible and versatile chamber groups. Praised by critics for virtuoso performances and sterling ensemble playing, Sinfonietta Ventus has appeared in Mexico's most prestigious festivals and concert series, as well as in the principal concert halls of the capital and throughout the country. The octet has also toured in the U.S., Europe, and South America, presenting concerts in Rome, Turin, Bogota, as well as in Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in New York City. To date, Urtext Digital Classics has produced three compact discs by the group: Musica Para Divertirse (2000), Sinfonietta Ventus en Vivo (2002) and Una Tarde en la Alameda (2005). These three cds display the broad repertoire of the group, which includes the masterful octets by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, a large body of contemporary works by Mexican and European composers, such as Francis Poulenc and Mario Lavista, as well as an impressive collection of arrangements of works ranging from full symphonic standards, such as Revueltas' Homenaje a Garcia Lorca and De Falla's, Suite from the Three Cornered Hat to such popular works as Mambo Suite of Perez Prado and Glenn Miller's In the Mood.
